Sustainable Recovery
PTSD Treatment For Veterans & Active Duty Members
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is one of the most prevalent and least understood conditions affecting Veterans and active-duty service members. It is not a character flaw, a weakness, or something that fades with time on its own. PTSD is a clinical condition rooted in the brain’s response to overwhelming experience – and it is highly treatable with the right care.
Veteran-Focused Residential Care
At Hope Valley, we provide residential PTSD treatment designed exclusively for Veterans and active-duty service members.
Our program is built around military culture, trauma-informed clinical practice, and the understanding that the experiences driving PTSD in this population are distinct from those of the civilian world. Combat exposure, moral injury, military sexual trauma, and the psychological weight of repeated deployments require a specialized clinical response – and that is exactly what we provide.
Trauma-informed, evidence-based treatment from a Veteran-led clinical team
- Residential setting – maximum 6 residents per home, separate addiction rehab homes for women and men
- Private, rural setting on 2 acres in Wasilla, AK – structured for focused healing
- TRICARE and TriWest accepted – we handle all verification and billing
- Integrated dual diagnosis treatment for co-occurring PTSD and substance use disorders

What to Expect in PTSD Treatment for Military & Veterans
Residential PTSD treatment provides the most intensive and clinically comprehensive level of care available outside of a hospital setting. For Veterans and service members whose PTSD significantly impairs daily functioning, co-occurs with substance use or other mental health conditions, or has not responded to less intensive interventions, residential treatment offers the depth of focus that genuine recovery requires.
At Hope Valley, you live on-site in a small, homelike environment alongside a maximum of 5 peers – all Veterans or service members – while receiving a full schedule of individual therapy, group work, psychiatric care, and holistic wellness activities. Every element of the day is structured around healing.
What your treatment includes:
- Comprehensive psychiatric evaluation at admission to establish a full clinical picture
- Individualized treatment plan built around your specific trauma history and co-occurring conditions
- Individual trauma therapy sessions using ART, EMDR, and Seeking Safety
- Gender-responsive group therapy with Helping Men Recover or Helping Women Recover curricula
- Contingency Management to reinforce positive recovery behaviors throughout treatment
- Weekly holistic wellness activities through our Battle Dawgs partnership
- Ongoing psychiatric oversight and medication management where clinically appropriate
- Alumni and workforce development planning as treatment progresses toward discharge
Therapies Used in PTSD Treatment
Trauma-focused therapies are the cornerstone of effective PTSD recovery for military members and Veterans, helping process combat memories, moral injury, and service-related trauma without re-traumatization. Our trauma-informed care at our treatment facilities creates militarily-aware safe spaces where you control the pace.
At Hope Valley, we empower through evidence-based trauma therapies tailored to deployment experiences, MST, and reintegration stress, teaching practical skills for civilian life while honoring your service history.
Core PTSD Treatment Modalities:
- ART Therapy: Accelerated Resolution Therapy – rapid memory reprocessing (1-5 sessions) using guided eye movements to neutralize combat flashbacks
- Prolonged Exposure Therapy: Controlled, gradual confrontation of trauma triggers (sirens, crowds, confined spaces) to reduce avoidance and reclaim daily functioning
- Seeking Safety: A present-focused, trauma-informed curriculum specifically designed for individuals with co-occurring PTSD and substance use disorders – one of the most common clinical presentations among Veterans entering treatment.
Why This Combination Works for Service Members:
- ART provides rapid relief when time is limited
- Exposure rebuilds tolerance to civilian triggers
- CPT resolves moral injury and “should’ve” thinking
- Skills training translates to real-world missions (parenting, VFW events, job interviews)
Other Evidence-Based Approaches
- Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT): Addresses the stuck points that sustain PTSD – distorted beliefs around safety, trust, control, esteem, and intimacy that frequently develop following combat trauma, MST, or moral injury. CPT helps clients examine and restructure these beliefs through structured clinical exercises.
- Helping Men Recover / Helping Women Recover: Gender-responsive, trauma-informed curricula addressing the social and cultural factors shaping each individual’s experience of addiction and trauma – delivered in gender-separate groups that create a focused, safe therapeutic environment.
- Contingency Management: A structured behavioral approach that reinforces positive recovery behaviors and builds the internal motivation needed for sustained engagement throughout residential treatment.
- Psychiatric Evaluation and Medication Management: Where clinically indicated, our psychiatric team provides comprehensive evaluation and ongoing medication oversight as an integrated component of the treatment plan.
- Battle Dawgs Holistic Wellness: Weekly experiential wellness activities through our partnership with Battle Dawgs, a Veterans wellness program offering a range of holistic healing practices that support physical and emotional recovery alongside formal clinical treatment.

Continuing Care
What Happens After PTSD Treatment
Completing residential treatment is a significant milestone – but recovery does not end at discharge. The transition back into everyday life is one of the most vulnerable periods in any recovery journey, and Hope Valley prepares every client for it deliberately.
Before you leave, your clinical team develops a thorough continuing care plan that addresses relapse prevention, community connection, and the specific challenges of reintegrating into civilian or military life after intensive residential treatment.
What Continuing Care at Hope Valley Includes:
- Personalized Relapse Prevention Plan: Your specific triggers, early warning signs, and the coping strategies built during treatment – so they are second nature by the time you leave.
- Alumni Community: Ongoing peer connection with fellow Veterans and service members who have walked the same path – people who understand your experience without explanation.
- Workforce Development Support: Practical assistance with career reintegration, employment resources, and vocational planning – because sustained recovery is built on purpose as much as it is on clinical gains.
Recovery from PTSD is not about forgetting what happened. It is about reaching the point where what happened no longer runs your life. That is what Hope Valley is here to help you achieve.
