Hope Valley is a specialized residential treatment program designed specifically for Veterans and active-duty service members. Our clinical and leadership team, many of whom are Veterans themselves, understand military culture, the challenges of reintegration, and the unique traumas that accompany service, including combat-related PTSD, moral injury, and military sexual trauma. We serve men and women in separate, gender-specific homes and accept clients from throughout Alaska.

Yes. Hope Valley Health & Wellness is CARF-accredited (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities). CARF accreditation is a nationally recognized mark of quality in behavioral health and addiction treatment, signifying that our programs meet rigorous international standards of care, safety, and outcomes. It provides clients and families with confidence that Hope Valley’s services are credible, accountable, and committed to continuous improvement.

Yes. Hope Valley’s clinical and leadership team includes many Veterans who have personally navigated the challenges of service, substance use, and reintegration into civilian life. They don’t just understand military culture. They’ve experienced it firsthand. This peer perspective creates an environment of trust where clients feel genuinely understood without having to explain the unique aspects of military service.

Hope Valley treats a wide range of substance use disorders, including alcohol addiction, opioid and heroin addiction, fentanyl addiction, methamphetamine addiction, cocaine addiction, benzodiazepine dependency, and prescription painkiller abuse. We also treat polysubstance use, when multiple substances are involved simultaneously, and address underlying mental health conditions such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, and co-occurring disorders that frequently accompany addiction in Veterans.

Medical detox is the first phase of treatment, focused on safely managing withdrawal as substances leave the body. At Hope Valley, detox is medically supervised 24/7 by nurses, medical assistants, EMTs, and on-call physicians in a safe, home-like setting. Once the body is stabilized, residential treatment begins, a more intensive phase focused on therapy, skill-building, relapse prevention, and personal growth. Most clients transition directly from detox into our residential program without leaving campus.

A typical day at Hope Valley is structured yet personalized. Mornings begin with group sessions, followed by individual therapy appointments, evidence-based treatment groups, and wellness activities. Throughout the week, residents participate in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Seeking Safety, Helping Men/Women Recover, and relapse prevention groups. Weekly Battle Dawgs sessions include outdoor adventures, yoga, animal therapy, and nature-based wellness. Nutritious meals are prepared daily, and the small house size, a maximum of 6 residents, ensures individualized attention from staff.

Hope Valley maintains a 5:1 client-to-clinician ratio, one of the most individualized ratios in residential addiction treatment. Each house accommodates a maximum of 6 residents, and our team includes master’s-level therapists, addiction counselors, nurses, medical assistants, and on-call physicians. This intentionally small setting ensures every resident receives close, personalized care throughout every phase of their treatment.

Yes. Hope Valley has separate residential homes for men and women on our two-acre private campus in Wasilla, Alaska. Each gender-specific home accommodates a maximum of 6 residents. Rooms are semi-private to balance personal space with camaraderie. While housing is gender-separate for privacy and safety, men and women participate in many therapy groups together, which mirrors real-world recovery environments and builds healthy peer relationships.

Hope Valley uses a comprehensive suite of evidence-based therapies proven effective for Veterans and active-duty service members, including: Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) for trauma and PTSD, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Seeking Safety for trauma and substance use, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Helping Men Recover and Helping Women Recover for gender-responsive care, Contingency Management for behavioral reinforcement, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid and alcohol use disorders. All therapies are delivered by master’s-level clinicians.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a cutting-edge, evidence-based therapy that uses guided eye movements, similar to REM sleep, to rapidly process and resolve traumatic memories, PTSD symptoms, anxiety, and depression. ART is particularly effective for Veterans experiencing combat-related trauma, moral injury, and military sexual trauma (MST). Unlike traditional talk therapy, ART often produces significant relief in as few as 1 to 5 sessions without requiring clients to repeatedly recount distressing events in detail.

Yes, Hope Valley offers Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid use disorder (OUD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD). MAT combines FDA-approved medications, such as buprenorphine (Suboxone), naltrexone (Vivitrol), acamprosate (Campral), and others, with counseling and behavioral therapy to treat the whole person. MAT helps reduce cravings, block the euphoric effects of opioids, and significantly lower the risk of overdose. Our MAT programs are clinically driven and tailored to each individual’s needs.

Battle Dawgs is Hope Valley’s exclusive experiential activities partner. Residents participate in weekly immersive adventures in Alaska’s outdoors, including dog sledding, fishing, hiking, yoga, cold plunges, and animal therapy. These activities build resilience, camaraderie, and healthy leisure habits that support long-term sobriety. Battle Dawgs is designed to complement, not replace, evidence-based clinical care, and it is provided at no extra cost to residents as part of Hope Valley’s comprehensive treatment program.

Yes. Hope Valley provides specialized, trauma-informed care for Veterans and active-duty service members who have experienced military sexual trauma (MST). Our team is trained in MST-sensitive practices, and our evidence-based therapies, including ART, EMDR, Seeking Safety, and CBT, are specifically effective for MST survivors. Our gender-separate homes provide an added layer of safety, privacy, and comfort throughout the treatment process.

Yes. Family involvement is an important part of the recovery process at Hope Valley. We offer family therapy as part of our treatment program and encourage family participation where appropriate. Staying in Alaska, close to home, makes it significantly easier for loved ones to attend therapy sessions and support the transition back to daily life after treatment. Research consistently shows that family involvement improves long-term recovery outcomes.

Yes, Hope Valley specializes in treating co-occurring disorders for Veterans and active duty service members, addressing addiction and mental health conditions like PTSD and depression. Our trauma-informed program uses evidence-based therapies like EMDR and Seeking Safety to treat substance use and behavioral health issues concurrently.

This highly depends on the specific medications you are currently taking, as well as whether or not those medications are contributing to your addiction or mental health disorder. Our experienced Psychiatrist will conduct a thorough evaluation of your current medications, taking into account their effects and any potential side effects. If necessary, they will prescribe alternate medications tailored to your unique needs to assist you effectively in your recovery journey, ensuring that you receive the best possible support.

Yes. While many expensive programs claim that treatment works best far from home, this is not true and lacks research support. Studies show that people with strong aftercare support and who take part in Alumni Support after their residential stay are more likely to succeed. Family involvement is crucial, and it may be limited if you choose a treatment center outside your hometown.

In most cases, your TRICARE or TriWest insurance will cover most - if not all - of your treatment costs at Hope Valley, since we participate as a network provider specifically for Veterans and active duty personnel. This seamless coverage supports our full continuum of care without unexpected out-of-pocket expenses for eligible clients.

Note that we do not accept Medicaid, though flexible self-pay arrangements are available for those without insurance. Contact us for a free benefits verification.

Yes. Hope Valley is an in-network provider with both TRICARE and TriWest Healthcare Alliance. For most eligible Veterans and active-duty service members, TriWest benefits cover the majority of residential treatment costs, with little to no out-of-pocket expense. Certainly. While some facilities may charge upwards of $1000 per day for Detox and Rehabilitation services, we strive to maintain a cost-effective approach to ensure that assistance is accessible for those in need.

No, there is no evidence to suggest that a higher program cost necessarily leads to better treatment outcomes for individuals seeking recovery. In fact, extensive research indicates that the most critical factors influencing success in treatment are not the financial aspects but rather the utilization of evidence-based therapies. This includes approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, which is effective in changing harmful thought patterns, along with intensive individual and family counseling delivered by masters-level therapists and addiction specialists. Additionally, a crucial factor that often determines the efficacy of treatment is a person’s own commitment and dedication to their recovery journey, as this internal drive plays a vital role in achieving lasting change.

The first step is a confidential phone call to Hope Valley for a free insurance verification and clinical assessment, alternatively you can Submit a Contact form located on the bottom of every page. We’ll review your TRICARE/TriWest benefits, discuss your needs (addiction, co-occurring disorders, military background), and create a personalized treatment plan.

From there, you’ll transition smoothly into our continuum of care - starting with medically monitored detox if needed, followed by residential treatment in our small, gender-separate houses (max 6 residents).

Yes, absolutely. We want to assure you that all of your personal information will be kept strictly confidential, in accordance with HIPAA regulations as well as State and Federal laws. This means that your treatment information will not be disclosed to anyone without your express written consent. Your privacy is our highest priority, and we take all necessary measures to protect it.

Every treatment plan is designed to fit the specific needs of each person. However, those dealing with drug or alcohol addiction or mental health disorders often need long-term treatment for a successful recovery. A stay of at least 90 days is usually recommended, which can include 30 to 60 days of residential care. This extended time is crucial because it can take up to a year for the brain to heal after treatment. The risk of relapse is highest in the first 6 months after leaving treatment. Ultimately, successful recovery depends on fully completing the program and participating in aftercare services or support groups.

Yes. Individuals who complete our Residential Rehab can receive free aftercare services for life, including a weekly support group led by a qualified counselor. This ongoing support reinforces skills learned during treatment and fosters a supportive community for recovery.

Hope Valley’s Lifetime Aftercare Alumni program provides free aftercare support for life to every resident who completes our residential treatment program. This includes a weekly support group led by a qualified counselor and access to the broader Hope Valley alumni community. Ongoing peer support after discharge is one of the strongest protective factors in long-term recovery, and this benefit means clients always have a place to return to, no matter how much time has passed since their discharge.

Yes, of course. We take pride in our team of licensed therapists and addiction specialists who are well-trained to support families and friends. Their main aim is to guide interventions in a caring and effective way, helping loved ones talk about their concerns and promoting a positive discussion that encourages change.

Family support is one of the strongest predictors of long-term recovery success. Hope Valley encourages family involvement through family therapy sessions, regular communication with the treatment team (with the client’s consent), and education about addiction and co-occurring disorders. If you are unsure how to help a loved one start treatment, call our Intake Line at (907) 318-2180. Our admissions specialists can guide you through the process and, if needed, discuss our intervention services.
