Mental Health & Addiction Treatment at Hope Valley Health & Wellness
Anchorage is home to one of the largest Veteran populations in the country. Between Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson on the city’s edge and the thousands of service members and Veterans who have settled across the Anchorage bowl, the need for addiction treatment that actually understands military culture has never been greater. Hope Valley Health & Wellness was built specifically for that population.
Located in Wasilla – roughly 45 minutes north of Anchorage on the Glenn Highway – Hope Valley offers residential addiction and mental health treatment exclusively for Veterans and active-duty service members. The drive is short. The distance from the environment that may be feeding the problem is not.
A Program Built Around the Military Experience
What We Treat
Hope Valley is intentionally not a general population treatment center that accepts Veterans. Each individual in our treatment program has served in the military in some capacity. Even our clinical team has served. Our treatment program was developed with those Veterans in mind.
Our residential treatment program is located on two private acres in Wasilla, Alaska. We have several small homes on the property, each of which is gender-separated. Each home accommodates a maximum of six Veterans at a time. The small size of our homes allows our treatment staff to focus on each individual Veteran and provide the level of care and attention required for recovery. While in treatment, Veterans live onsite, removed from the environments and triggers that may have contributed to their addictions, and surrounded by others who understand the burdens they carried.
We accept Veterans who are struggling with a variety of disorders, including alcohol addiction, drug addiction, opioid dependence, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, and co-occurring disorders. Many Veterans experience both substance use and mental health disorders simultaneously, so our treatment addresses both.
Most of the disorders we treat are rooted in some form of trauma. To effectively address that trauma, we use Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) as our primary trauma therapy. Additional therapies within our program include Seeking Safety, Helping Men Recover, Helping Women Recover, Contingency Management, and Medication-Assisted Treatment where clinically appropriate. We also offer experiential and wellness activities that bring a holistic dimension to the treatment program.
